Revisions to Bilingual Wedding Rite
The Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments approved revisions to the Catholic Rite of Marriage. Each Catholic Parish is mandated to adopt the changes as of December 30th, 2016. Chief among the changes to the ceremony is the name itself: The Order of Celebrating Matrimony. Catholic Bishops agreed to change "Marriage" to "Matrimony" to take advantage of the latter's more sacred connontations.
Additionally, language changes to the new edition fall in line with the Third Typical Edition of the Roman Missal and its emphasis on a stricter Latin Translation. There are also new permissable options for the ceremony itself. The new version allows for optional inclusion of traditions of Spanish-language and Filipino Catholic weddings such as the blessing of a lazo and coin exchanges. These ceremonies are now present in English-language weddings too.
